A plump, “Army” green toad ranging from 1.75 to 2.25 inches in length. Dorsal coloration may vary from dark black to gray to chocolate or a greenish brown. Easily distinguished from the other spadefoot toads by the “boss” or bump that occurs on the top of the head between the eyes. Two yellow lines run from the eye to the vent to form markings that resemble an hourglass similar to S. holbrookii. Occurs in savannahs and wooded areas in central and northern Louisiana.
