NWRC Participates in Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference: USGS NWRC Branch Chief Greg Steyer and ecologists Sarai Piazza and Michelle Meyers will participate in the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference, January 26-29, in Mobile, Alabama. Steyer will serve as an invited panel speaker in a session on Ecosystem Monitoring/Ocean Observing with representatives from NOAA, EPA, BOEM and NASA. The panel will discuss how decision-making needs are met through monitoring/observing programs in the Gulf; the historical and current state of monitoring-related programs; and a vision for the future of an expanded Gulf coastal and ocean observing program.
