GOMA All Hands Meeting: USGS NWRC Geographer Larry Handley will represent NWRC during the 2013 Gulf of Mexico Alliance All Hands Meeting in Tampa, Florida June 25-27. The Gulf of Mexico Alliance is a partnership of the States of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, with the goal of significantly increasing regional collaboration to enhance the ecological and economic health of the Gulf of Mexico. GOMA has identified priority issues that are regionally significant and can be effectively addressed through increased collaboration at local, State, and Federal levels. NWRC staff conduct work on a variety of topics related to GOMA issues. (Larry Handley; Lafayette, La.; 337-266-8500)

USGS Meets with The Water Institute of the Gulf: On June 27, USGS NWRC Director Phil Turnipseed, USGS Louisiana Water Science Center Director George Arcement, and USGS LaWSC Assistant Director John Lovelace will meet with President and CEO Charles Groat and staff of The Water Institute of the Gulf to discuss water resources in the State of Louisiana. Arcement and Lovelace are leading a significant research and monitoring project with the State of Louisiana to define ground water resources and the extent and capacity of water resources in the State. Data will be used to construct a comprehensive water resources plan. The Water Institute of the Gulf is a not-for-profit, independent research institute dedicated to advancing the understanding of coastal and deltaic systems and to applying scientific and technological solutions for the benefit of society.
