  • NWRC Represented at America’s Energy Coast Leadership Forum:  USGS National Wetlands Research Center Deputy Director Matthew Andersen, Branch Chief Thomas Doyle, and Five Rivers Media Specialist Susan Testroet-Bergeron attended the America's Energy Coast Leadership Forum May 29-31, 2012, in New Orleans, La. Representatives from federal and state agencies, energy companies, academia, and non-governmental organizations discussed resiliency and restoration strategies.   • GOMA Federal Work Group Conference Call:  USGS National Wetlands Research Center Director Phil Turnipseed, Branch Chief Scott Wilson, and Ecologist Kate Spear met with the Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA) Federal Work Group during a call on May 31, 2012, to discuss collaboration among Federal agencies in the Alliance and to coordinate Federal efforts.   • NWRC Hosts Student Researchers:  Three college students from the Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (SOARS) program, and their sponsors from the University of New Orleans Center for Hazards Assessment, Response and Technology (CHART) Program will visit the USGS National Wetlands Research Center on June 1, 2012. The SOARS students are spending time in Louisiana studying a range of issues including water quality, food supply, and hurricane storm surge. The students will tour NWRC and meet with staff to learn about ongoing wetlands research in coastal Louisiana and the work of USGS. (Chris Cretini; Lafayette, La; 337-266-8621)

  • NWRC Meets with Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture to Discuss Conservation:  On June 4-6, 2012, USGS National Wetlands Research Center Director Phil Turnipseed will meet with the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture at their spring meeting in Heber Springs, Ark., to discuss current conservation efforts by the LMVJV in the Valley. Turnipseed is a managing board member of the LMVJV, which meets twice a year.  (Gabrielle Boudreaux Bodin; Lafayette, La.; 337-266-8655)

  • NWRC Staff Participates in CWPPRA Task Force Meeting:  USGS National Wetlands Research Center Branch Chief and CWPPRA Public Outreach Committee Chairman Scott Wilson, Ecologist Kate Spear, CWPPRA Outreach Coordinator and Five Rivers Media Specialist Susan Testroet-Bergeron, and CWPPRA Media Specialist and NWRC contractor Cole Ruckstuhl will participate in the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act Task Force meeting in Lafayette, La., on June 5, 2012.   • Land Use Toolkit Workshop:  The USGS National Wetlands Research Center will host a “Louisiana Land Use Toolkit Workshop” being sponsored by the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and presented by the Center for Planning Excellence on June 7, 2012. The workshop will inform coastal residents and decision makers about the development tools in the Coastal Land Use Toolkit. (Gabrielle Bodin; Lafayette, La.; 337-266-8655)
