  • NWRC Hosts Seminar in Honor of National African American History Month: The USGS National Wetlands Research Center will host a seminar honoring National African American History Month on February 27, 2012. Sherry T. Broussard will discuss research related to her recently released book, “Images of America: African Americans in Lafayette and Southwest Louisiana.” Broussard’s book is a collection of over 200 photographs that display the heroes and heroines of Southwest Louisiana. Due to the diverse culture of Southwest Louisiana, Broussard’s collection features the people who describe themselves as African Americans, Creoles, mulattoes, and blacks. The diversity experienced by these many cultures can be experienced through their distinct arts, food, music, and crafts. The NWRC library is also featuring an informational display as part of the celebration. (Gabrielle Boudreaux Bodin; Lafayette, La.; 337-266-8655)
