Over 1100 4th graders were among the educational and community groups that participated. (Susan Horton, Lafayette, LA, 337-266-8655)

  • USGS Scientist Helps with Native Plant Project: On April 22, USGS scientist Larry Allain provided technical guidance for an Earth Day planting project sponsored by the Louisiana Native Plant Initiative. A dozen volunteers gathered at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Center for Ecology and Environmental Technology to plant native species such as wild indigo, ashy sunflower and Indian grass. Seeds produced from these native plants will be released to commercial growers who will produce seed for habitat restoration work. (Susan Horton, Lafayette, LA, 337-266-8655)
