USGS Hosts International Delta Meeting: More than 150 scientists from nine nations attended the International Delta Roundtable Meeting hosted by the National Wetlands Research Center (NWRC), Lafayette, LA, Nov. 28 – 30. The primary goal of the conference was to initiate the formation of a community of practice focused on sharing information that ultimately promotes sound ecological forecasting for the sustainability of the world’s deltaic ecosystems, including the Mississippi River Delta. Assisting NWRC in planning technical sessions and in a follow-up fieldtrip, Nov. 30 – Dec. 5, were other USGS Science Centers including the Columbia Environmental Research Center, the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center, and the Florida Integrated Science Center. Partners and sponsors included the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, International Crane Foundation, Caddo Lake Institute, Great Lakes Fishery Commission, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and HDR Engineering, Inc.
