Subject: Weekly Highlights, USGS National Wetlands Research Center, July 30 2007

Departmental/Bureau News

USGS and Gulf Coast Joint Venture Discuss a Shared Vision: On July 25, USGS National Wetlands Research Center (NWRC) director Greg Smith hosted a meeting in Lafayette, LA, attended by biologists from the Gulf Coast Joint Venture (GCJV), a conservation partnership, and USGS scientists. Through presentations and discussions, both groups gained a better understanding of the priorities and capabilities of each office and how USGS and GCJV can work together to successfully implement the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Strategic Habitat Conservation initiative for birds along the Gulf Coast. (Gaye Farris, 337-266-8550, Lafayette, LA)
