USGS scientist Tom Doyle and Tommy Michot were quoted in the August/September 2006 issue of National Wildlife magazine. In the article “When Hurricanes Hit Habitat”, Doyle and Michot discuss the impacts of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on plant and animal habitats along the Gulf of Mexico Coast, including the Breton National Wildlife Refuge and the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve.

USGS scientist Virginia Burkett was interviewed by Cornelius Dean of the New York Times about a report Burkett co-authored with 34 other scientists brought together by the State of Louisiana, British Petroleum, and the America’s Wetland Campaign. The report, “Envisioning the Future of the Gulf Coast,” assesses the technical feasibility of restoring and protecting the central Gulf of Mexico coastal zone. The NY Times article will run in mid-August.

USGS librarian Linda Broussard was interviewed by the Daily Review (Morgan City, LA) about the wetlands exhibit from the National Wetlands Research Center currently on display at the University of Louisiana’s Dupre Library. The article will be published in the August 26-27 edition of the paper as part of an insert for the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival.
