USGS Librarian Receives Honor: USGS Librarian Linda Broussard was recently nominated by the Louisiana State University School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) faculty for membership in Beta Phi Mu, the International Library and Information Science Honor Society. The purposes of Beta Phi Mu are to recognize distinguished achievement in and scholarly contributions to librarianship, information science or library education and to sponsor and support appropriate professional and scholarly projects related to these fields by providing scholarships, publishing newsletters and scholarly works, and organizing and supporting seminars, workshops, conferences, and similar activities. The faculty nominates no more than 25% of its graduates from the preceding 12 months for membership on the basis of scholarship and demonstrated professional promise. The staff at the National Wetlands Research Center was acknowledged by photographer Bevil Knapp and writer Mike Dunne in their new book America’s Wetland Louisiana’s Vanishing Coast. USGS scientists Tommy Michot, Pat O’Neil, Chris Swarzenski, and Chris Wells were shown in the photographs; Jimmy Johnston, Scott Wilson, and Gabrielle Bodin (USGS contractor) provided information; and John Barras and Christina Saltus provided maps and graphics.
