USGS geographer Steve Hartley and University of Louisiana Research Associate Alaa Shams were recognized by ESRI, a geographic information system (GIS) and mapping consulting firm, for their contributions to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. II. Press Inquiries/Media

USGS scientist and pilot Tommy Michot was interviewed by Audubon magazine about the destruction and recovery of Louisiana’s barrier islands especially the Chandeleur Islands due to years of impacts by hurricanes, most recently Hurricane Katrina. The information will be used in an upcoming issue of Audubon on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
