Terrestrial, small salamander reaching a maximum length of 2.5 inches in Louisiana. Dorsal color ranges from yellow to red to orange with brown to dark gray sides and an undulating mid-dorsal stripe. Ventral surface slightly red or orange and irregularly spotted. Inhabits wooded areas and is rarely found active during the daytime. Mating occurs between January and March, females lay eggs in June or July, and eggs hatch between August and September. Species occurs only in the Tunica Hills Wildlife Management Area.
