The U.S. Geological Survey's National Wetlands Research Center will celebrate the first birthday of its parent division, the Biological Resources Division, Friday, September 19.
The center was formerly part of the National Biological Service, which became a division of USGS, last year. The merger added the scientific study of life sciences to the USGS traditional areas of expertise in geology, mapping and hydrology.
Dr. Robert E. Stewart, director of the center, said, "The cooperation between our biologists and ecologists and the geologists, hydrologist, and geographers has enabled us to add new dimensions to our research. This means that we are better able to serve the American people in finding solutions to coastal and wetland problems."
