New Research Program Focuses on Invasive Grasses
A new research program being developed at the USGS National Wetlands Research Center is focusing on the invasive potential and ecological risks associated with exotic grasses that occur with in the coastal prairie ecoregion. A substantial number of nonnative grasses have either been introduced or migrated into the region, some may pose major problems for land managers and property owners. The overall objective of this research program is to develop methods that will permit us to understand and predict the magnitude of impacts that an invading species may have on native diversity and ecosystem characteristics. |
