- NWRC Assists in Invasive Species Issue Near New Orleans: USGS National Wetlands Research Center scientist Jill Jenkins was contacted the week of May 25, 2009, by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries about an invasive species issue that has been developing near New Orleans, La. Two invasive fishes, tilapia and Asian carp, were introduced into waters near Port Sulphur, and Jenkins has been asked to provide information on chemical methods for removal and analysis and to determine whether or not the carp are capable of breeding. - USGS National Wetlands Research Center scientist Beth Middleton’s trip to India in April 2009 continues to receive coverage in the news media. Middleton’s visit to the Keoladeo National Park is featured in an article by Laurinda Keys Long in SPAN Magazine, and her exploratory trip to Pulicat Lake is featured in the June-July 2009 issue of In Touch South India, the newsletter of the U.S. Consulate General Chennai.
- Reporter Bruce Brown of The Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, La., interviewed USGS National Wetlands Research Center Director Gregory Smith, Acting Assistant Director Gaye Farris, and Branch Chief Scott Wilson on June 3, 2009, concerning the Delta Research And Global Observation Network (DRAGON) and the DRAGON Asia Summit taking place in Siem Reap, Cambodia June 22 – 25, 2009. The article is expected the run the week of June 7.
