Departmental/Bureau News - Current
- Several scientists and staff attended the USGS Gulf Coast Science Conference held jointly with the Florida Integrated Science Center Review October 20-23 in Orlando, Fla. They chaired 3 sessions, made 15 presentations, were authors on 37 abstracts, and produced 23 posters. Abstracts of presentations and poster sessions are available in USGS Open-File Report 2008-1329. Agency Work on Presidential Initiatives
- Dr. Marc Gaden, Communications Officer, Great Lakes Fisheries Commission, and Mr. Jeb Barzen, Director, Field Ecology, International Crane Foundation, participated in meetings with the USGS National Wetlands Research Center in preparation for the upcoming November visit to Vietnam of Department of the Interior and nongovernmental organization officials. The purpose is for the Department to launch the Delta Research and Global Observation (DRAGON) Institute-Mekong at Can Tho University and for scientists to attend meetings associated with the establishment of the U.S.-Vietnam Climate Change Working Group. Both the Institute and the Working Group are outcomes of the Joint Statement Between the United States of America and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (http://deltas.usgs.gov/news/CanTho.aspx), released by U.S. President Bush and Vietnam Prime Minister Dung in June 2008.
