- USGS Scientist Received Conservation Award: USGS scientist Carroll Cordes received the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture (LMVJV) Conservation Service Award in Vicksburg, MS, on April 22. The award, presented by Sam Hamilton, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Southeastern Regional Director, recognized Cordes for his contributions and service as a member of the LMVJV Management Board. - On May 12, USGS scientist Gregory Smith was interviewed by Pete Spotts with the Christian Science Monitor for a story he is writing on the disaster in Myanmar. Smith discussed deltas, wetlands, wetland restoration, and the Delta Research and Global Observation Network (DRAGON) Project.
