- Under Guidance of USGS Scientist, American Fisheries Society Chapter Wins Award: On February 29, the Louisiana Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) was honored with the “Outstanding Large Chapter” Award at the 2008 AFS Southern Division Spring Meeting in Wheeling, West Virginia. USGS scientist Jill Jenkins served as president of the Louisiana AFS Chapter during this time and helped mediate the Southern Division sponsored hurricane relief efforts including developing a template for future hurricane relief efforts by AFS. - USGS Scientist Gives Keynote Talk on Climate Change: Virginia Burkett, USGS Chief Scientist for Global Change Research, gave a keynote talk at the annual meeting of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges in San Diego, CA, February 10 -12. Burkett spoke on climate change and its impacts on North American water resources, forests, and wildlife species. (Virginia Burkett, Lafayette, LA, 318-256-5628)
- USGS Scientist Speaks at NOAA Climate Change Training: Virginia Burkett, USGS Chief Scientist for Global Change Research, was the featured speaker at a training program on climate change for the staff of NOAA’s Coastal Services Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
