2005 Awards and Appointments – USGS National Wetlands Research Center
Awards
Various staff members received 26 awards from the Center. The following Regional awards were given:
- Karen McKee was recognized with the USGS Regional Science Excellence Award for her achievements and outstanding contributions to natural resource management and visibility of the U.S. Geological Survey within the scientific and management communities.
- STAR award presented to Dolores Richardson for her outstanding contributions to the USGS Biology Central Region
- STAR award presented to Leslie Holland on being named a Central Region Administrative Support Person of the Year for 2005
- STAR award presented to Mary Hebert for her outstanding contributions to the USGS Biology Central Region
- Contractor Gabrielle Boudreaux Bodin, IAP World Services, Inc., received an outstanding stewardship award from the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana for her work as outreach coordinator for the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act task force

- Jill Jenkins elected as Southeastern Division of the American Fisheries Society Education Section Representative.
- Linda Broussard is a member of the USGS Thesaurus Team, part of the Web Enterprise Group.
- George Ravain is a member of the USGS Desktop Hardening committee and USGS Central Region Active Directory.
- Jim Capezza works with the USGS Enterprise Information Program.
- Steve Hartley serves on the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Clean Waters Project.
- Greg Steyer serves on the Louisiana Coastal Area (LCA) Science and Technology Workgroup.
- Clinton Jeske serves on the Shorebird Management, Evaluation, and Research Team for the Gulf Coast Joint Venture and the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture Waterfowl Working Group.
- Elijah Ramsey is an Associate Editor for Wetlands, and an Associate Editor for Wetlands Ecology and Management journals. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Coastal Research, and a Trustee in the Coastal Education and Research Foundation.
- Jimmy Johnston and Elijah Ramsey were on the Program Committee and were Session Chairs in the Eighth International Conference on Remote Sensing for Marine and Coastal Environments, 17-19 May 2005 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
- Larry Handley serves as the technical editor for the Journal of Geography; interim editor of The Geographical Bulletin for two issues; Executive Secretary for Gamma Theta Upsilon; National Director for the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing; Executive Committee member and Chair of the Bylaws Committee; board member of the National Council for Geographic Education; and on the Louisiana Environmental Education Commission on the Education and Outreach Committee for the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program; treasurer of the Louisiana Environmental Educators Association; Science Steering Committee for both the Geographic Analysis and Monitoring Program and the Land Remote Sensing Program of the Geography Discipline of the USGS; USGS Global Fiducials Working Group; FGDC Wetlands Subcommittee; and chair of the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture of the USFWS’ Geomatics Network.
